It’s going to be the New Year Party to beat all New Year Parties. After all it is the start of our Silver Jubilee Year and we need to kick off with a big bang! So, mark the dates now – Saturday and Sunday, January 6th and 7th, 2018
We begin by bringing Vienna – the world capital of classical music to Harrogate’s Royal Hall for a New Year Celebration on Saturday January 6th! There will be all the trimmings – Bucks Fizz Reception; Singing from the Gallery; our own augmented National Festival Orchestra on stage; some superb soloists including Nick Sales and James Cleverton from our National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company and Sarah Helsby Hughes from Heritage Opera. The conductor is Irish Maestro Aidan Faughey who has a particular affinity with the Viennese repertoire. And we are expecting dancers as well.
Our Musical Delights of Vienna programme will be packed full of all your old favourites including:-
Blue Danube Waltz * Trisch Trastch Polka * Pizzicato Polka * The Radetzky March and many more
Hum along with our wonderful guest singers as they delight you with champagne operetta songs:
Merry Widow Waltz * Don’t Be Cross * The Laughing Song * Strolling Vagabond * Vienna City of Dreams and lots, lots more
“An extremely entertaining evening!” – BBC Radio 2
The Great British Song Book
Ross Leadbeater, a musical director, pianist, singer and presenter who works extensively in theatre, film, television and radio is bringing his award-winning “Great British Songbook” to entertain us on Sunday afternoon, January 7th in the Crown Hotel Ball Room. The book features all the old-time favourites from Novello to Lloyd Webber and from Sullivan to Flanders and Swann. Ross is bringing two nationally known soloists to join him in this outstanding concert. He is regular on BBC Radio 2, 3 and 4 and television appearances include The Royal Variety Show, Classical Brit Awards, Proms in the Park and The One Show.
A block of accommodation has been reserved at the Crown Hotel which will host the full Sunday programme including a special morning Sullivan presentation; New Year Sunday lunch and the special ‘Great British Song Book’ performance.
And if you can stay for the whole weekend (Saturday and Sunday nights) we have more treats in store – a reception and dinner on Sunday evening followed by a semi-staged Pot-Luck HMS Pinafore with Festival favourites taking the principal roles and the chorus – chiefly yourselves. We are very excited about the weekend and hope to see many of you there.
