The first ever pro-am production at the 1994 Festival starred so many D’Oyly Carte favourites including Kenneth Sandford, Patricia Leonard, John Ayldon, Geoffrey Shovelton and Alastair Donkin supported by an amateur cast. This morning we are taking a nostalgic look back at this outstanding production conducted by David Steadman.

UNIFest has become an important component of our Festival. It features Gilbert & Sullivan groups from universities who compete for a range of awards. We are delighted to welcome the Savoy Opera Society from Royal Holloway University, London. This will be their first visit to the Festival.

Don’t miss this classic melodrama performed by the G&S Opera Company. Sir Despard Murgatroyd has inherited a witch’s curse forcing him to commit a crime a day or die in agony, but his shy, unassuming elder brother Robin, believed to be dead, is discovered to be alive and living nearby. Robin must now step into his rightful place and assume the title of the Bad Baronet of Ruddigore and either commit a crime every day or submit to the horrible consequences meted out by the terrifying ghosts of his ancestors.
