|14:30||Princess Ida||Grosvenor Light Opera Company||Harrogate Theatre||£15|
Princess Ida features some of Sullivan’s most delightful music and Gilbert’s wittiest lines. The women reign supreme at Castle Adamant where Princess Ida has opened an all-female university to prove the superiority of her sex. Of course, things don’t go to plan, as prince Hilarion, who was engaged to Ida as a baby, dresses as a woman and breaks into the castle to claim his bride.
|19:30||The Yeomen of the Guard||Bus Pass Opera||Royal Hall, Harrogate||£20 – £30|
Established exclusively for the over 60s this will be Bus Pass Opera’s fifth production and there is no doubt their audience support grows year by year. The performers themselves boast an amazing pedigree of experience in performing Gilbert and Sullivan and they certainly demonstrate that age is no barrier to the clear delivery of Gilbert’s words and articulation of Sullivan’s music. A show to look forward to.
